Aim of Deer Management

We all want to see deer in the countryside, but like any animal or plant, if the population becomes too great there is a need for management, for their own good as well as ours!

There are many reasons for the need to manage deer.

To reduce damage to crops / habitat

To reduce / prevent Potential Road Accidents

A 2007 survey estimated that there were as many as 74,000 accidents involving deer across the country annually.

To improve the welfare of the deer

DeerControl.org managers are on hand to advise on all aspects of deer welfare and will liaise with all parties to maintain open dialogue in sensitive areas, working with the landowner's wishes and desires.

This is achieved with careful assessment and planning.

It is of the utmost importance that the wishes of the landowner are respected at all times. Local opinion must also be taken into consideration particularly when working within public or sensitive areas causing as little disturbance as possible. Health and Safety procedures within the environment are followed

How do I know if Deer are Present?

Are deer damaging your plants? You must be sure if you are to deal with the problem effectively. If a deer is seen browsing in your garden you can be sure of the culprit. More often, only signs of damage will be apparent.

Deer browsing can be distinguished from rabbit damage by the ragged edge left at the tip caused by the lack of top teeth in a deer! Rabbits have upper incisors and so make a clean cut, like that scissors.
We employ PIR technology mobile cameras which operate 24/7 to capture wildlife activity. This will quickly show presence of deer and other animal activity. Once gathered, this evidence enable us to effectively plan the right course of action.

Did you know..?

Because Deer have no Front Top Teeth, they use a dig and pull action with their lower jaw. The consequences can be seen below.
